Our foundress, St. Angela Merici, taught the importance of changing  with the times: ‘If times and circumstances require new rules, or alterations to be made, then change things, with prudence and good advice.’

The Ursuline Sisters of the Roman Union came to Wimbledon in 1892 and opened a private school in Worple Road. The school opened with three pupils but quickly grew, necessitating its move to a bigger property in Claremont Lodge, The Downs. All ages of boys and girls were accommodated on that site until 1944 when the school made its home at 18 The Downs, Wimbledon.

Ursuline Preparatory School has always been a private school but, in response to educational needs, has altered its age range. From 1944 Ursuline Prep educated boys and girls, with boys leaving at the age of 7 years, while girls remained to the age of 11 years. From 1969 to 2002, Merton ran a middle school system and the Ursuline Prep educated girls up to 13 years of age. In 2002 Ursuline Prep became a school for girls aged 4-11 years with a coeducational nursery.

In recent years the school has invested in dedicated facilities for Art and Music, together with a library. To support our extensive sporting provision the school uses off-site facilities in addition to our floodlit astroturf sports surface, ICT Suite and Studio Theatre.

A Look Back

School History

ALUMNI

Today Ursuline Prep has a number of staff that were pupils at this school, or their parents were teachers here, or their children attended this school. In some cases we have a third generation attending the school, either as staff or pupil.

We have always prided ourselves on being a happy and caring school nurtured through the involvement the school encourages between pupils and our families and the wider community.

“My 43 years as a pupil, parent and teacher at Ursuline Prep have been extremely happy ones . Ursuline Prep has an important and special place in my heart and ‘once an Ursuline girl, always an Ursuline girl’. I cherish the never-ending ties I still have with the Church and community as well as the school due to my link with Ursuline Prep.  #UrsulineServiam”
